Helping You Every Step Of The Way
Questions like:
Where do we start?
What paperwork do we need?
Is the marriage legally recognised in the UK?
Do we need a translator?
What happens in Italy?
Can we have a symbolic ceremony instead?
These are all things we help with regularly.
We understand that planning a wedding in another country can feel daunting at first, especially when dealing with official paperwork and another language. That is why we offer a very personal service, helping guide you through the process clearly and simply so you always feel supported and reassured.
Peace of Mind
Yes, absolutely.
A legal civil wedding in Italy is fully recognised in the UK, as long as the correct paperwork and legal processes are completed beforehand.
If you would prefer not to manage the legal paperwork, you can also choose a symbolic ceremony. Many couples complete the legal part at home and then enjoy a beautiful, personalised symbolic ceremony on Lake Garda surrounded by family and friends.
We help couples understand exactly what is needed and guide you through each stage to make sure everything is completed correctly and on time.
The Legal Process Explained
Every couple's circumstances can vary slightly, but generally the process includes:
You will usually need to arrange an appointment at your local UK registry office to apply for your Certificate of No Impediment. This document confirms there is no legal reason why you cannot marry. The certificate is normally displayed publicly for 28 days before being released.
Once your certificates are ready, you will need to complete the relevant declaration paperwork and have your identity confirmed by a solicitor or notary. Do not worry, we guide you through this process and explain exactly what is needed.
Your documents are then sent to the Legalisation Office in Milton Keynes to receive the Apostille stamp, which officially legalises them for use in Italy.
This is where we take over on the Italy side. We arrange for your documents to be translated into Italian before personally delivering them to the relevant courts and local town hall offices in Italy to complete the legalisation process.
Italian civil ceremonies must legally be conducted in Italian, which means a translator is required during the ceremony. Our trusted translator Jeanette helps with this process and supports throughout the legal side of your wedding arrangements.
